To change the admin password on your BT Smart Hub, start by opening a new web browser on a device connected to your Hub and type 192.168.1.254 in the address bar - this will open the Hub manager. Click Advanced Settings. Click System. Enter the admin password. The DHCP functionality of Smart Hub is clearly broken. For example, I keep trying to set a device as having a static IP and the Smart Hub keeps setting it back to DHCP. Rather than to to keep fighting with Smart Hub, I'm thinking of switching off DHCP and attaching another device (e.g. Raspberry Pi, Apple AirPort Express) to act as the DHCP server. I can answer my own question now because I took delivery of the TalkTalk Wi-Fi Hub this morning. Although it has a recommended retail price of £120 (at least according to TalkTalk) I got it for £30 as an existing customer. Compared with the not so wonderful TalkTalk Super Router that it replaced, these are my findings so far. Here at TalkTalk, you’ll find lots of different people doing different jobs. But we all share the same vision – to change our industry for the better, for everyone.

BT engineer told us there was a known problem with the Hub 6 and advised us to try an old Hub 4 which solved the problem, but as we originally chose BT for its “fastest in UK Hub 6” we did not have the service that we ordered in the first place.
